Birkenstock - Find Your Fit

Just like people, every brand is unique, and Birkenstocks are no exception. These fan-favorite sandals and clogs come in European sizing, which might not be something you’re familiar with (or maybe you just need a refresher). We’ve put together a guide to explain exactly how your Birks should fit so you can wear them for years to come.

Birkenstocks are made with a contoured cork-latex footbed that will mold to your feet over time. Your foot will gradually adjust to the straps and footbed as you break in your pair. Your feet should be able to move freely without your toes hitting the edge of the footbed.

Breaking in your Birkenstocks is an important part of the process to get the perfect, custom fit. To make them fit like a glove, we have a few tips:

    • Only wear them for a couple of hours at a time for the first few wears to prevent any foot pain.
    • Wear them with socks (go ahead – we won’t judge you!) to make them extra comfortable.
    • Flex the footbed a couple of times before the first wear to help initiate the break-in period.

If you don’t know your size, we recommend coming into our stores to be measured accurately (if you don’t have a Hansen’s near you, find a local shoe store to support!). Most core styles come in both Regular and Narrow widths, though seasonal colors may only come in Narrow width. The Regular width is closer to a traditionally wide fit, while the Narrow option is closer to a traditionally medium fit.

If you’re not sure what size to get, you can always check out the Birkenstock Fit Guide. We should probably warn you that once you’ve gotten your Birkenstocks all worn in and customized to your feet, you’ll never want to take them off.
